BAC Apprenticeship FAQs

What do Bricklayers do?
Bricklayers do heavy lifting combined with precise positioning of components. The work involves the placement of a wide variety of brick, masonry block, stone, marble, terra cotta, tile, and related materials. These are used in the construction of walls, partitions, fireplaces, chimneys, and other structures. They also install the fire brick linings of kilns and industrial furnaces.

What are the benefits of a BAC Apprenticeship program?
Apprenticeship students pay no tuition & no out of pocket expenses for tools. In fact, you will receive a stipend for each day of training and housing is provided if you reside more than 70 miles from the IMI Training Center in Lansing. You will receive an internationally recognized, portable credential upon achieving journeyman status.

Students receive job placement after graduating from a pre-job class. After registration with the US DOL Office of Apprenticeship as an apprentice, a 5% raise is received for every 6 months and 750 hours worked. The benefits beyond wages are health care, pension, union representation, and continuing education.
